Founded as an artist-run collective in Berlin in 2014, then transformed into a company in Paris in 2018, Gray Box now builds creative and healing spaces, immersive experiences and emancipated communities. The company focuses on ecology, socio-cultural change and subcultures, challenging hegemonic class, gender, normative behaviour and dominant ideologies. Performances, exhibitions, events, fashion collections and educational programmes reflect the wider socio-political context and challenge the body as a political-affective geography, a historically shaped and colonised archive where power is constantly contested and negotiated. In recent years Gray Box has performed across Europe, South Asia and Africa, in big cities and small towns, in formal and informal, indoor and outdoor spaces. It has also been in residence at many theatres, museums, universities and artist-run platforms.
